A Year in Review

baby birth

It’s hard to believe that a year ago I was impatiently waiting out the last few weeks of my first pregnancy. It is such a cliché, but this year has gone by so fast. As many of you may know, my husband and I had a rocky start to parenthood when our daughter experienced a traumatic birth and was in the NICU for three weeks. Within hours of the event a call for prayer for our new family went out, and Dave and I received the palpable support from this church community.

The first few days were agonizing because I was recovering from a C-section, while our daughter Cecilia was transferred to a different hospital for specialized care. It was a comfort to know that Pastor Ben was immediately present with an endless supply of coffee and silent support. This community did for us what it does so well— find a need and fill it.

One example among many is that when a new baby is born at MCCC, meals are organized for the family. It was such a blessing to have real food brought to us at the hospital and get a break from the unappetizing cafeteria. The first Sunday bringing Cecilia to church was very emotional for us after receiving so much prayer and love from this community. I remember being overwhelmed by God’s love through the amazing people in this church.

The drama of Cecilia’s birth has faded and we have enjoyed all of the milestones and wading through the everyday challenges of parenthood. Our church continues to provide authentic love and support for our family. To be honest, this was a difficult article for me to write. It was hard for me to put into words all of the love, joy, pain and peace that we have experienced. I asked my husband Dave what I should write about and he simply said, “Just say that this year has been an answer to prayer.” He’s right, and I believe our church community said most of those prayers for us, so thank you, thank you, thank you.
