I don’t have time for God.
Yes, I said it out loud. I feel horrible and ashamed writing that statement. But God already knows my heart and how I feel sometimes; I cannot hide. He knew I was becoming so distracted with life and myself.
When I heard about IF:Gathering, I decided I was going to commit to the event. I was excited about the opportunity to take time to concentrate on my faith and hear from others about their own.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”
– Proverbs 3:5-6
This was the key verse for IF:Gathering 2019. After reading it, I felt moved immediately and felt that God wanted me to go and help straighten my path.
A great group of women — of varying ages — came together at Mercy Commons Covenant Church for IF:Gathering 2019. It was a live-streamed event featuring different motivational speakers featuring ways to apply Proverbs to our everyday lives. The event started on Friday night, February 8th, and went all day on Saturday, February 9th. This event, put on by IF, is to remind each other of the importance of following God and to reclaim the priority of discipleship as His means to change the world.
I looked up their website to learn more about them. What is IF? IF exists to equip women with gospel-centered resources, gatherings, and opportunities so they may learn more about who God is and disciple other women right where they are.
It was a fun, eye-opening weekend of connection, laughter and renewal. I am always amazed and encouraged to see others seeking direction, knowing then I’m not alone. We are always growing in our faith journeys and know that it will always be changing. And pray that God will guide our every move.
Here were a few takeaways I had from the event:
- God likes us! This was a mini revelation to hear. Of course we’ve always heard that God loves us, but He also likes us! Wow, I never had that thought before.
- Give. Don’t focus on what you lack, but what you have to give. Giving activates abundance. Giving activates control. One person can make a difference. I can make a difference. YOU can make a difference.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
– Galatians 6:9
- Discipleship. It’s important to have friends who are believers. I love all of my friends — believers and non-believers. But I do have a special connection to my friends that are believers. I view them as “soul friends” that God has placed in my life to help me in my faith journey. It’s those “soul friends” with whom I can have unedited conversations, know they will pray for me when I need it and help me grow in my faith.
- Self discipline. Discipline to make time for God. Discipline to use my time and actions wisely in every moment, every day.
Thank you, God, for reminding me. I need to make time for You.
