Mercy Commons Youth Group
by Ben Swanson
This year Mercy Commons launched a new youth program focused on, but not limited to, middle schoolers. We met for the first time on September 17th and have continued to meet weekly on Sundays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at church.
We’ve been working together to nail down our group’s core values and so far we have four: have fun, read the Bible, be nice, and serve.
Our community is not boring. We don’t gather to satisfy our parent’s consciences or the pastor’s ego. We show up because we want to be here and have fun together.
read the bible
We experiment with ways of getting God’s Word into our hearts and minds. We know we need to read or listen to the Bible, so we’re trying different ways of absorbing it together and during the week. No tests, no pressure, and no guilt.
We are a safe and diverse community. Bad behavior will be corrected. Kindness will be rewarded.
Our kick off was a packing party at The Sheridan Story. We will continue to serve with them and pursue other areas of outreach.
Peter, Jim, Rebecca and I are blessed to be a part of the group as leaders. We look forward to watching the youth grow in their faith and friendships!
